Chances Newsletter | September 2024

Welcome Back for the New Academic Year!

Dear Partner Schools,

As we embark on a new academic year, we extend a warm welcome back to all our partner schools, students and families. We are excited to continue our collaboration and build on the successes of the past year. Your ongoing support and partnership have been integral to our achievements, and we are eager to share some highlights and updates from Chances School.

Celebrating Our Achievements

Outstanding Recognition and Feedback

We are thrilled to report that Chances School has received remarkable recognition for our dedication and success. Feedback from our partner schools, students, and parents/carers has been overwhelmingly positive. Our commitment to providing tailored support and creating a nurturing environment has truly made a difference.

“I work with a number of providers and the systems, process and communication at Chances is ahead of other providers. The impact chances has on the children. Its support is outstanding.”

“Chances is a very efficient and easy to use provider. Gary and his team have created a warm and welcoming environment that we are proud to use. The impact on our students is always positive.”

“I have found chances to be an outstanding provision. Communication between school and Chances is excellent. Students are clearly very well-supported from a wellbeing perspective as well as academic. It comes across the staff are very well trained and capable of managing students with complex/traumatic backgrounds.”

Exceptional Success Rates

Our success rate in reintegrating students back into mainstream schools remains exceptionally high at 83%. Notably, our highest success rate last year was with Key Stage 3 students and those with special educational needs (SEN) or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. The smaller learning environment at Chances has proven particularly effective in addressing these needs.

Ofsted Success

We are proud to announce that our Ofsted inspection at the end of the last academic year resulted in an overall grading of 'Good,' with 'Outstanding' features in the Behaviour and Attitudes of our students. Highlights from the Ofsted report include:

  • "Many pupils arrive reluctant to learn. Staff get to know pupils on an individual level. They find out about their likes and dislikes and what they are good at. As a result, pupils feel understood, settle in quickly, and re-engage positively with learning."

  • "Staff get the best from pupils."

  • "Pupils rise to the school’s high expectations of how to learn and behave."

  • "The school fosters pupils’ personal and social skills well. Character development runs through all aspects of school life."

  • "Pupils show demonstrable improvement in their attendance after joining the school."

  • "A significant majority of pupils reintegrate successfully back into mainstream education."

Enhanced Attendance and Engagement

Over the past academic year, we worked with 66 students on slightly longer packages (8-10 weeks) rather than the usual 6-8 weeks. This extended support has proven effective, with 87.7% of our students showing enhanced or maintained attendance levels. Before joining Chances, students had an average attendance rate of just 59.23%. Thanks to our tailored approach, this figure rose significantly to over 81.88%.

One-on-One Support

We conducted a total of 823 one-on-one sessions, amounting to 585 hours of personalised support. Our dedication to individual attention has been crucial in helping students overcome their challenges and succeed.

Year 11 GCSE Success

We are pleased to report that 100% of our Year 11 students who were attending Chances in the last term sat all of their GCSEs after initially being at risk of refusing. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of our interventions and support strategies.

Collaborative Engagement

Our commitment to strong relationships with external agencies was evident in the 509 meetings attended with various stakeholders throughout the year. This high level of engagement reflects our staff's dedication to communication and support.

Looking Forward

As we look ahead to the new academic year, we are enthusiastic about continuing our work with you and enhancing our collaborative efforts. Together, we can build on our successes and further support our students in reaching their full potential.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to another year of shared achievements and positive outcomes.

Best regards,

The Chances School Team
